The Saints – Lot 165/33

My dad, Roy (Farmer) Saint was a volunteer fireman in Bradford, just north of the Holland Marsh. After emergency calls or training session, he and 4 friends talked about how they each wanted to get a cottage. During the winter, my dad built a flat bottom boat. Then during the summer of 1957, we all went camping at places where building lots were coming up for sale. This included Haliburton, Six Mile Lake, Gibson Lake, Parry Sound area and others. When we went to Go Home Lake, we drove to the gravel pit (just west of the water pump). The men took turns carrying the boat and motor to where the free parking is now. We camped on a large, deep sandy beach that was immediately north of the “dance hall”. This beach is under water since the dam was built and the water level rose. Everyone in our group agreed that Go Home Lake was the best choice for us. Four families sent in their cheques for the blind auction. Our bids were a bit low, but we all got our second choices which were lots 30 to 33, beside what became “the pink cottage”. Later the fourth friend bought lot 36. Someone named our area Little Bradford. It was a great experience growing up on the lake especially with so many friends. In the coming years, we had several relatives come to visit and eventually some bought on the lake. When I had a family, I bought my own place at lot 165 in Key Hole Bay. I am the last of the original group from the Bradford group and couldn’t be happier to still be on the lake with my family
